*- WNPF NATIONAL RECORD,
BL-BEST LIFTER
Another great meet for the
WNPF. The 2009 USA championships was a big success. We missed some of our 2008
champions but overall a great meet and hopefully we will have the 2008 and 2009
champions back on the platform for 2010. Great lifting by Jamie Davis in the
275 class totaling 1825 and lifting single ply. Damon Mayers won his first best
lifter award lifting in the 198 class in the RAW division. Chad Pauley totaled
1545 in the single ply division and his buddy Bill Schull was on his way to a
great day and then he couldn’t get a bench press in to stay in the meet.
Charlie Paige is one of the great drug free raw bench pressers. Charlie weighed
147 lbs. and benched 385 pounds. John Marsh and Mike Renfore battled in the 220
RAW division with John coming out on top with a 440 bench. Mike benched 10
pounds less and finished second. This should be a great rivalry between these
two men. They both were looking for Jonathan Moore from TN. To make this a
three way battle between them. William Hill came all the way from California to
break some records and that he did at over 60 years of age. Kevin McCarragher
set a goal of 510 lbs and guess what he did it coming away with the national
record and the win. Rick Padgett gets the FIRED UP away, this man came out
screaming and yelling at the weights and boy did he lift these massive weights
so effortlessly. Rick has a goal of lifting 700 lbs. for his late dad Jake the
hammer Padgett and he will reach this goal in the near future. Big Dean Nichols
is one of the nicest guys in the WNPF he is so strong and so humble. You would
never know that he is one of the WNPF elite lifters. He came in trying to pull
800 pounds but this wasn’t his day pulling 750 and missing 800. Big Dean needs
to go back to RAW lifting and he will pull 800 for sure. Billy Coleman won the
best lifter in the powercurl but didn’t receive his award because he left. I
guess he had no idea that he had a chance at winning it. Thanks to Tony
Caterisano and his group from Furman University for attending this meet. Thanks
to the guys from Stack’s Gym and the guys from Fitzgerald and the guys from the
Northern Georgia area. I hope the guys that bombed out will come back stronger
in the next WNPF event; I’ve seen the novice guys up to the elite guys bomb out
over the years I’ve been in this sport. All these guys have to do is refocus
and attack the weight that defeated them in this meet and they will be fine.
Thanks to the WNPF staff once again for helping us make the WNPF what it is
today. Hope to see you all at worlds this year. (WNPF)
